The Purpose of my Blog

Why I am doing this?

I learned so much more prepping vegetables than I ever did in cooking school.

– David Chang

In high school, after a concussion that ruled me out of sports for 6 months, I found myself working as a dishwasher to fend off boredom and a sense of uselessness. In the kitchen I found a sense of place that I have never felt anywhere else in my life. My contributions were valued and made a difference for the first time in a legitimate sense, this was real life. I soon found my way out of the dish pit by volunteering to pick herbs. I would pick herbs for hours, there are always herbs to be picked in a restaurant. From herbs I moved to lettuce and before I knew I was a full time prep cook. I would work every Saturday and Sunday, after a week of school and sports practice, from 7am to 3pm. I did this for two years and learned more life skills than all my years of school combined. I learned to be efficient, hard working, self-motivated, and organized. However, over all these skills I learned, I gained a passion for cooking that manifests itself in my life everyday. I aim to use this blog to share the things I cook and any food I find inspiring.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives me the ability to share my passion with the word
  • Because I am being forced to share something and this is what I have to share
